Biomedical engineering: FEMTO-ST and in-vitro fertilization

Work conducted on in-vitro fertilization microsystems at FEMTO-ST means that related procedures can now be automated. A microsystem is used to move ova awaiting fertilization in micro-channels to several measuring points where they undergo viability tests (measurement of the optical transmission spectrum for example) and then to a specific point where they will be fertilized. The objective is to improve the quality and repeatability of the operation which is currently carried out manually under microscopes in hospital environments.
