In Besançon, the capital of Franche-Comté, the watchmaking industry and time, the Dermatology Department of Jean Minjoz University Hospital houses the CDVP, a "Skin Ageing Diagnosis Centre" unique in France. Set up by the CERT (Tegument Study and Research Centre) in response to society's current concerns, it has proven to be a real success: people travel from all over France to have their skin assessed. The equipment used by the team, consisting of a research engineer and a dermatologist, are at the cutting edge of technology and certain devices are even prototypes! "The people who come here are usually aged between 40 and 65. They want to avoid surgery and to age as gracefully as possible. […] and the skin is the organ through which ageing is most clearly expressed." During the consultation, the engineer therefore measures sebum levels, checks hydration, elasticity, grades the radiance of the complexion, examines the topography etc. And everything is explained. An assessment is then produced of the data collected before the patient is sent on to a dermatologist who will advise them on the best course of treatment. The process consists of two stages: diagnosis and cosmetic consultation then care and treatment if necessary. All of these procedures are of course conducted in a public hospital setting.
